Another amazing week for our little friends in our sweet little classroom! This week we focused on the letter D. The children learned that D is a consonant, the sound of D, the formation of the capital and lowercase D, and we did many activities surrounding the letter D. In math, we focused on the number 4. The children learned all the ways to show the number 4; the number, the word, pictures, tally marks, and in a ten frame. We found four on the number line and we also discussed one more and one less. We also reviewed the rectangle shape and the color green. Each day of school we count the number of days that we have been there until we get to our 100th day celebration. On Friday, we were up to date 27 already! In religion, we celebrated the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi on October 4. Monsignor Diamond held a special blessing dedicated to our young students and their beloved stuffed animals. Known for his kindness for all of God’s creatures, St. Francis inspires this charming tradition, allowing each child to experience a sense of comfort and spirituality. As Monsignor Diamond blesses each little one and their cherished plush companions, we celebrate the love, protection, and joy they bring into our lives. This event not only honors the spirit of St. Francis but also fosters a deep sense of community and happiness among our students, marking a memorable and heartfelt occasion in our school year. A big thank you to Msgr. Diamond for always making our students feel special and for the constant support of our school. We had a fun dinosaur day this week. The children learned a lot about dinosaurs who lived long ago, made a cute craft, learned about fossils and made one, and they pretended to be a paleontologist and dug in the sand looking for dinosaur bones. They discovered cute little dinosaurs that they all took home. We loved reading the book, The Dot. The Dot' by Peter Reynolds tells the story of a child who grows in her self-confidence. We had a wonderful discussion following the story and made our own dot which is hanging in the hall. We had an awesome time playing outside this week, we especially love going into the woods behind church to follow the Stations of the Cross. The children love looking at each station and are reminded of God's great love for us. A BIG THANK YOU to our three secret readers this week. The children LOVE being surprised and are always so excited to see who it will be! Please contact me if you are interested in being a secret reader. We continue practicing the correct way to write our names, hold our scissors and pencils, and we are really working on waiting our turn to either play with something or to speak. It can be a little difficult for our little friends to learn to raise their hands during circle time or waiting for our time to talk during circle, but we will get there. It is important to learn this before they head to kindergarten.
