We sure are keeping busy in our pre-k classroom! We welcomed Cooper to our classroom family, we are so happy to have him join us! This week we focused on the letter E. We learned that "E" is a vowel, the short and long sound of "E", we practiced the formation of the upper and lower case and we did many activities surrounding the letter E. We had fun searching for the letter E around the classroom and feeding our letter monster. We learned all about elephants and found out some very interesting elephants facts, ask your child to share them with you.
We are focusing on a different nursery rhyme each week. This week's nursery rhyme was, The Isty Bitsy Spider. Nursery Rhymes are important for young children because they help develop an ear for our language. Both rhyme and rhythm helps kids hear the sounds and syllables in words which helps them to read.
We focused on the number 5 this week. We learned all the different ways to show the number 5, the number, the word, tally marks and the ten frame. The children are counting everyday as we count forward to our 100 day celebration. We are already past 30 and the children are getting better and better at counting!! It is so great to see them count higher everyday!
We reviewed the color orange and the oval shape. We kept busy working on our alphabet books, handwriting books and color books which will go home when we finish. We are working on our fine motor skills with lots of cutting and writing.
In religion, we discussed talking to God. We learned we can talk to God at anytime and anywhere. God always hears us! We learned there are also different types of prayers but we should always praise God and thank him.
Our Saint of the week was St. Elizabeth.
We practiced a fire drill and lockdown drill over the last few weeks. The children did a wonderful job with both drills. We kept it simple as to not frighten our little ones.
We celebrated Mrs. Hegarty's birthday this week! Thanks to our homeroom moms, Mrs. McCusker and Mrs. Grady for your help in surprising Mrs. Hegarty.
The children continue to learn to work individually and as a group. They are learning how to get along, make choices and how to handle different situations in a classroom setting. They are learning to share, take turns and patience.
Please remember to review all work sent home and practice at home with your child. Our working together will ensure your child's success this year!!!
FAMILY TREES- This week in religion we will focus on our wonderful families. Please send in your trees this week with your child to share with the class. Just like each family is unique so is the tree you will make with your child. Enjoy!
HALLOWEEN PARADE- Save the date- The children will have a parade and sing songs to parents on October 31st at 8:30. It will only take about 15 minutes for our parents who need to get to work.
Progress Reports for pre-k will not go home until December. There will also be parent conferences on December 3rd and 4th. There will be noon dismissal on both of these days. Sign up for conferences will begin in November.
BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION- Please send in your box tops to help our class win the Box Top Challenge.
We are so happy to have secret readers each week! The children have loved being surprised! Thank you so much for being a part of our classroom!
Secret Readers- If you are interested in being a secret reader please email me. A secret reader is a secret to the children. The children love having parents come in and surprise them and read to the class. Secret readers must have all of their clearances.
