We can't believe how quickly the Christmas Season has come upon us!!! We are going to be busy little elves over the next couple of weeks as we prepare for this beautiful holiday. We have seen the excitement in the children already especially when they returned from Thanksgiving to see that Santa has sent one of his elves to watch over us. The children voted on his name and decided on Leon. Leon has been making a little mess at times in our classroom but the children love searching for him every morning!
This week we focused on the letter K. We learned that K is a consonant, the sound and formation of K and we did many activities surrounding the letter K. We loved making and eating cocoa kisses for snack and counting Hershey kisses in math. We also focused on a very special "K" word, kindness. We discussed how important it is to be kind. The children shared kind things that they do and the things they can do to show kindness. We are going to be looking for friends who are "caught being kind" at school over the next few weeks.
We learned all about Advent in religion this week. We lit our first candle of our Advent Wreath as we wait for Jesus. We have a classroom prayer service each time we light a candle on our wreath. We also learned about St. Nicholas this week. He was a rich man who helped the less fortunate with his money. He often left money at houses while the people slept. The children put out shoes on Thursday before they left and St. Nicholas left treats for them while we were gone. We went to Mass with the school to celebrate the Feast of St. Nicholas and we were so proud of their behavior. They make God so happy!
We focused on the number 9 this week. The children practiced the formation, counting, and one to one correspondence. We continue counting to our 100 day of school celebration, it is hard to believe that we are on day 70 already!!! We have so many reasons to celebrate in our Pre-K classroom!!!
We also discussed hibernation and migration in science this week. We learned what animals hibernate and how some animals prepare for the winter.
CHRISTMAS VILLAGE- The children will go shopping for their loved ones on Friday morning with their prayer partners at our Christmas Village. This is such a fun time for our little friends. They will be able to make crafts, have hot chocolate and cookies, and visit with Santa!!! More information can be found on Mr. Touey's newsletter. The envelope for shopping will be sent home this week. We are asked to please help by sending in cookies for Mrs. Clause Bake Shop. We will be going first thing in the morning, so please try to have your child on time on Friday morning.
CHRISTMAS SHOW- Our class will be performing The Nativity Story for our families on Thursday, December 19 at 10 am in Walker Hall. Children should wear their gym uniforms that day.
Bottle of Hope- The service club has a yearlong service project called The Bottle of Hope. All classrooms have a bottle and we are collecting loose change. Please send in your loose change throughout the year. The donations will be given to various charities. We will be having competitions for the classrooms who collect the most money.
Secret Readers- We love having our family members surprise us by reading to the class. If you are interested in being a secret reader, please email me to set up a time. Remember, don't tell your child because we like to see their happy faces when you surprise them. All readers must have their clearances.
